Carbon Reduction Plan

Supplier name: Branksome Cleaning Services Ltd trading as BCS Commercial Cleaning

Publication date: September 2026

Commitment to achieving Net Zero

Branksome Cleaning Services Ltd trading as BCS Commercial Cleaning is committed to achieving Net Zero  greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases produced before the introduction of carbon reduction  strategies and provide the reference point against which future emissions reductions can be measured.

Baseline year: 1 July 2025 – 30 June 2026

Additional details relating to the baseline emissions calculations

This is the first formal Carbon Reduction Plan and organisational carbon footprint assessment undertaken by  Branksome Cleaning Services Ltd trading as BCS Commercial Cleaning. In accordance with the PPN 006  guidance for first-time reporters, the first reporting period has therefore been used as the baseline year.

BCS Commercial Cleaning is a commercial cleaning services provider operating primarily at client premises. The  company does not operate dedicated office premises. Its registered office is at the premises of its external  accountant and is used as a registered business address. Administration and management staff primarily work  from home. BCS does not purchase electricity, gas, heating or cooling for a dedicated office; Scope 2 emissions  are therefore reported as 0.00 tCO2e.

Scope 1 emissions arise from one company-owned diesel vehicle, a 2020 Volkswagen Transporter. The vehicle is  not used for routine employee commuting. It is used approximately once per month for longer-distance  operational visits to Southampton and Devon and occasionally for moving larger cleaning machinery, with limited  additional local mileage. Estimated annual business mileage is approximately 4,680 miles. Using the 2026 UK  Government average diesel van direct emission factor of 0.113 kgCO2e per km gives estimated Scope 1  emissions of approximately 0.85 tCO2e.

The required Scope 3 categories reported are upstream transportation and distribution, waste generated in  operations, business travel, employee commuting, and downstream transportation and distribution. Where  complete historic activity records were unavailable, reasonable operational estimates have been used and the  assumptions are stated below.

Scope 3 calculation notes

Upstream transportation and distribution – 1.15 tCO2e

Cleaning chemicals, consumables and equipment are supplied by external suppliers. Comax, based in Ringwood,  supplies approximately 10 contract sites using a diesel van. Most sites receive approximately one delivery per

month and the Southampton site approximately two deliveries per month. For the baseline estimate, an average  45-mile return delivery journey has been used. Deliveries to Devon are made through DPD: approximately two  deliveries per month to Brixham, two per month to Torquay and one per month to Plymouth (approximately 60  parcels per year), with an estimated average parcel weight of 25 kg. The combined upstream transportation  estimate is 1.15 tCO2e.

Waste generated in operations – 0.10 tCO2e

BCS does not operate a waste collection service and does not transport client waste. Cleaners place client generated waste into the client’s own waste and recycling facilities; collection and disposal are arranged by the  client’s appointed waste contractor. Waste directly attributable to BCS is limited mainly to used mop heads.  Approximately 4-8 mop heads are disposed of per client per month across approximately 15 client sites, equating  to an estimated average of around 1,080 mop heads per year. Reusable cleaning cloths are washed and reused  rather than routinely discarded. As exact mop-head weights and final waste treatment routes are not available, a  conservative first-baseline estimate of 0.10 tCO2e has been included for operational waste and will be refined  when better waste data becomes available.

Business travel – 0.00 tCO2e

Business journeys described for the reporting period are undertaken in the company-owned Volkswagen  Transporter and are already reported under Scope 1. They are not duplicated under Scope 3 business travel.

Employee commuting – 11.20 tCO2e

The baseline workforce is 35 employees. Approximately 70% commute using privately owned cars, 10% use  public buses, and 20% walk or cycle. Average commuting distance is estimated at four miles each way.  Approximately 60% of staff work five days per week and 40% work three days per week; 46 working weeks per  year have been used for the estimate. Where car fuel type is unknown, an average-car/unknown-fuel approach  has been used. Walking and cycling have been treated as zero operational commuting emissions. BCS does not  provide company transport for routine commuting.

Downstream transportation and distribution – 0.00 tCO2e

BCS is a service-based commercial cleaning company and does not manufacture or distribute physical products  to customers. No applicable downstream transportation and distribution emissions have therefore been identified  for the reporting period.

Current Emissions Reporting

Reporting year: 1 July 2025 – 30 June 2026

As this is the company’s first formal carbon footprint assessment, the current reporting period is also the baseline  reporting period.

Emissions Reduction Targets

In order to continue our progress towards achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction  targets.

BCS aims to reduce its organisational greenhouse gas emissions by at least 20% over the next five years against  the 2025/26 baseline. On the current baseline of 13.30 tCO2e, this would reduce annual emissions to  approximately 10.64 tCO2e by 2031.

Progress will be reviewed annually. Particular attention will be given to emissions that BCS can influence directly,  while recognising that a significant proportion of the current footprint arises from employee commuting in privately  owned vehicles.

Carbon Reduction Projects

Completed carbon reduction initiatives / measures already in place

∙ BCS operates without dedicated office premises; administration and management functions are primarily  home-based.

∙ BCS operates only one company vehicle and does not run a daily van fleet transporting cleaners to client  sites.

∙ The company vehicle is reserved mainly for longer-distance site visits and occasional transport of larger  cleaning machinery.

∙ Employees travel directly to their allocated workplaces. BCS encourages public transport, walking and cycling  where practical.

∙ BCS partially or fully contributes towards bus fares for employees in appropriate circumstances. ∙ Reusable cleaning cloths are washed and reused rather than routinely discarded.

∙ Client waste is placed into client-provided waste and recycling facilities; BCS does not operate a separate  waste collection fleet.

∙ BCS is in dialogue with its cleaning-product supplier regarding increased use of environmentally preferable  cleaning products.

∙ Digital administration, scheduling, communications and documentation are used where practical to reduce  unnecessary paper use and travel.

Future carbon reduction initiatives

∙ Increase the use of environmentally preferable cleaning chemicals where these meet required cleaning,  COSHH, safety and client-specific standards.

∙ Increase use of concentrated, refillable and controlled-dose cleaning products where practical, reducing  packaging, product consumption and transport weight.

∙ Work with suppliers to consolidate deliveries and reduce unnecessary small or urgent deliveries. ∙ Request improved environmental and carbon information from key suppliers and delivery partners to improve  future Scope 3 reporting accuracy.

∙ Continue to encourage public transport, walking and cycling and maintain financial support towards bus travel  where appropriate.

∙ Consider employee home location when allocating staff to sites where operationally practical, helping to  reduce commuting distance.

∙ Combine management and inspection visits geographically where practical to reduce unnecessary vehicle  mileage.

∙ Consider energy efficiency, durability, repairability and environmental impact when replacing cleaning  machinery and equipment.

∙ Continue using reusable cleaning materials and reduce unnecessary single-use consumables. ∙ Introduce an annual employee commuting survey to improve the accuracy of future Scope 3 calculations. ∙ Review the Carbon Reduction Plan and organisational emissions footprint at least annually.

Environmental measures applicable when performing contracts

The environmental management measures described in this Carbon Reduction Plan can be applied by  Branksome Cleaning Services Ltd trading as BCS Commercial Cleaning when performing public and private

sector cleaning contracts. These include environmentally preferable product selection, controlled chemical dosing,  reusable cleaning materials, support for client recycling arrangements, efficient equipment selection, consolidated  deliveries, reduced unnecessary management travel and encouragement of lower-carbon employee commuting.

Declaration and Sign Off

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 006 and associated guidance and  reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans.

Emissions have been reported and recorded in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon  Reduction Plans and the GHG Reporting Protocol corporate standard, using appropriate UK Government  greenhouse gas conversion factors and documented estimates where complete activity data was not available.

Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions have been reported in accordance with applicable requirements, and the  required subset of Scope 3 emissions has been reported in accordance with the published reporting standard for  Carbon Reduction Plans and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard.

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been reviewed and signed off by the board of directors (or equivalent  management body).

Methodology and Sources

This plan follows the structure and reporting requirements of Procurement Policy Note PPN 006 (updated  February 2025) and its Technical Standard for Completion of Carbon Reduction Plans.

UK Government greenhouse gas conversion factors for company reporting (2026) have been used as the  principal conversion-factor source for activity-based estimates. Figures are rounded to two decimal places.

Important: this is the company’s first formal baseline. Several Scope 3 values are based on reasonable  operational estimates because complete historical mileage, supplier freight and waste-weight records were not  available. BCS will improve data collection and refine these estimates in future annual updates.
